Kabir Fire Enterprises

Shop No- N61 is where we stay most of the day. We are in Mitra Vihar, Sector 1, over in the Avas Vikas area of Kesavapuram. It is near the T.D.A School, so we hear the school bell ringing and the kids shouting every afternoon when they get out of class. Kabir Fire Enterprises is a small operation. We mostly deal with fire extinguishers and some basic safety equipment. The shop is small, so we have to be careful not to trip over the red cylinders sitting on the floor. We spend a lot of time checking the expiry dates on the labels and making sure the pins are secure. Kalyanpur is a decent area, and we know most of the people who live around here. Sometimes we go out to local offices to look at their setups. Our van is parked out front, and it has seen better days, but it gets us around. We keep a small radio in the shop that plays the news or some old songs while we work. It’s not a glamorous job, but it is what we do. The walls are painted a simple white, though they have some marks from moving the heavy equipment around. We usually close up around seven and chat with the neighbor who runs the grocery store before heading home. It is a steady routine that we have followed for a long time now, just making sure the neighbors are safe.
