Panki is one of those places where you really feel the industrial side of things. Arvind Footwears Pvt Ltd has a factory at E-56 in Site-3. It’s a standard industrial plot with a lot of heavy lifting going on. We make shoes here, and it’s a busy atmosphere from the moment the gates open. The area is filled with other factories, so there’s always a hum of machinery in the background. We don’t have any fancy signs or a big lobby. It’s just the workshop floors and a small area for the management to handle the paperwork. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we’re more focused on the production lines. We’ve been operating out of Site-3 for years and the locals know us well. A lot of the workers have been with the company since they were young. We deal with a lot of materials and chemicals, so the ventilation is always running. It gets loud and sweaty, especially in the summer months when the humidity hits Kanpur. We take our breaks together and talk about the news or how the local teams are doing. It’s a plain, hardworking environment without any frills. Everything we do happens right here on this plot. When the shift ends, there’s a big rush of cycles and motorbikes heading home toward the residential areas of the city.
