National Foods

National Foods is located out on Alathur Road in Kulathur. It’s a straight road and we are easy to spot once you get past the main intersection. Since we deal with food products, it involves a lot of manual labor. There’s no big corporate office here, just a small room with a table and a couple of chairs where we do the accounts. The rest of the space is for the stock. We have rows of shelves and big bags sitting on wooden pallets. Usually, the air smells like whatever we are packing that week. Sometimes it is spices and other times it is grains. We have a small crew of workers who have been with us for years. Because we know their families and they know ours, it feels like that kind of place. To unload, the trucks pull up right to the edge of the road. It can be a bit of a scramble to get everything inside before the sun gets too hot. Instead of using complicated software to track things, we just use a pen and paper mostly. It works for us. Due to the trees nearby, the building stays fairly cool. We just try to keep things moving along steadily. There are no big meetings or long speeches, just the sound of bags being moved and the occasional radio playing.
