Falafel Snacks

At Falafel Snacks, we spend most of our time in the kitchen area on Kattilepalli Road. Being in Pappinisseri, we get a lot of local folks stopping by when they’re hungry for something quick. The smell of frying usually fills the whole street by mid-afternoon. It’s a small place, so things can get a bit cramped when there are more than three people inside. We’ve got a couple of small tables, but most people just take their food and go. The floor is always a bit slippery from the oil, no matter how much we scrub it at night. We source our beans and greens from the local market nearby. Sometimes the stove acts up and we have to call the repair guy from the next village. It’s not a fancy restaurant. We use plain paper bags and napkins that we buy in bulk. My auntie is the one who usually handles the spice mix, and she doesn’t like anyone touching her containers. We have a radio that plays the local station all day long. Rain can be a problem here, as the water sometimes leaks near the front door. We just put a bucket there and keep going. It's hard work being on your feet all day, but we like seeing the same faces every week. We aren't trying to change the world, just making snacks for people in the neighborhood. It's a living and we are okay with that.
