Devi Rice & Flour Mill

Running the Devi Rice & Flour Mill keeps us pretty busy most days. We are located over near Kothuparamba, right in the Cheruvanchery area. The machines make a lot of noise, so you can usually hear us before you see us. It’s a dusty job, but someone has to do it. Folks bring their grain here from all around the P.O. Cheruvanchery area. We’ve been at this for a long time now. The building isn't anything special, just a workspace that gets the job done. We spend most of our time maintaining the equipment and making sure everything is running like it should. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait, but that’s just part of living here. We don't have a fancy waiting room or anything. Most people just drop off their stuff and come back later. It’s a simple setup near Kothuparamba. We keep the machines going after all these years, which is something. It’s hard work, and our hands are usually covered in flour by the end of the shift. We see the same faces week after week. It's a rhythm we’ve gotten used to. The air smells like toasted grain most of the time. We just focus on the task at hand and try to keep the lines moving. It’s a local operation, nothing more and nothing less. If you need us, we're usually here from early morning until the sun goes down. We just keep our heads down and do the milling as it comes in.
