Ms New Computer Zone

Out here in Badagaon, specifically in the Balliguda area of Kandhamal, things move a bit slower than the big cities. We started Ms New Computer Zone because there weren't many places nearby to get a keyboard fixed or a screen replaced. My workspace is usually covered in tiny screws and half-opened laptops. It’s a bit of a mess sometimes, but I know where everything is. The internet can be a bit spotty in this part of Kandhamal, so people often come in asking why their connection isn't working right. I spend a lot of my time explaining things that seem simple but are actually quite annoying when technology breaks. It’s just me most days, sitting behind the counter. Sometimes the dust from the road gets inside, so I’m constantly wiping down the monitors. I don't have any big signs or bright lights. Most people find us because someone told them we were here. It’s a small town vibe where everyone eventually knows who you are. I like the challenge of a computer that won't turn on. It feels good when I finally hear that startup sound after working on a motherboard for two hours. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just fix what’s broken and try to keep the local folks connected. It’s a quiet life here in Balliguda, and that suits the work just fine for us.
