Vetridevi Orchestra

You can find us over at Vasanth Illam, which is at Plot No 1, No 49 on Pooncholai 5th Cross Street in Kumananchavadi. It’s out in the Poonamallee area, a bit further away from the main city buzz, which actually makes it easier for us to store all our orchestra equipment without getting in everyone’s way. The house has a front area where we park the vehicles and load up the heavy speakers and instruments. We’ve lived and worked from this spot for years now. Inside, it’s a bit of a mess with sheet music, microphone stands, and amplifiers stacked in the corners. It’s a real family environment here, with people coming in and out at all hours. We don’t have any corporate slogans or a fancy reception desk. Most of our planning happens around the kitchen table over a cup of tea or some snacks. Being in Poonamallee means we have to leave early for gigs to beat the traffic on the main road, so our days often start before the sun is even up. We spend a lot of time checking the speakers and making sure the keyboards are working right before we head out. The street is usually quiet, except for when we’re testing the sound system, which probably bothers the neighbors a bit, but they’re mostly used to it. It’s a simple life, traveling from one function to the next and then coming back here to unload and start all over again the next day.
