V. N. Rajan Silk Centre

You’ll find V. N. Rajan Silk Centre at 23 Mettu Street. We are on the upstairs floor, so you have to walk up the steps at the side of the building. Being on the second floor makes it a bit quieter than the street level, which is nice. We’ve been here for many years. It’s mostly silk work that we do. We have rolls of different fabrics stored against the walls. The natural light from the windows helps when we are looking at the colors of the silk. It’s a traditional kind of place. We don’t have computers or anything like that; we still do most things by hand and keep our records in big ledgers. People come to us when they want something specific in silk. Mettu Street is always busy, so there’s always something to see out the window. Sometimes the stairs are a bit of a climb if we are carrying heavy bundles, but we manage. We aren’t a big corporation, just a small family-run spot that knows its way around silk. We spend our days measuring and cutting. It’s a steady kind of life. We don’t have a fancy display, just the fabric and our tools. If you are on Mettu Street, just look for the number 23 and come on up the stairs to see us. We are usually here from morning until night.
