Shree Chandra Silks

Shree Chandra Silks is down at No. 10-B on Rajampet Street. We are right near the Moongil Mandapam, which is a big landmark for anyone coming to find us. The shop is full of different types of silk and fabrics. When you walk in, you see stacks of colorful cloth everywhere. It’s not a modern showroom with bright lights and glass cases. It feels more like an old-fashioned shop where you can touch the material and see the threads clearly. We spend a lot of time unfolding and folding saris and fabric pieces for the people who visit. The street outside can get very noisy with all the shoppers and vendors, but inside it’s mostly the sound of fabric moving and people talking. We have been here for a while and know many of the locals who stop by. Working with silk requires a bit of care because the material is delicate. We have to make sure everything stays clean and organized, though that’s hard when it’s a busy day. Sometimes the shop feels a bit small when there are several families inside looking at stuff, but we make it work. It’s a traditional way of doing things on Rajampet Street. We just open up in the morning, sweep the front, and wait for the first customers to arrive at Moongil Mandapam. People like the feel of the place because it is simple and honest.
