Pachaiyappas Silks

Pachaiyappas Silks is located at 65 66 Kamarajar Street, which is very close to the Taluk Office. Being near a government building means there are always crowds of people outside, which keeps the street very lively. Our shop is a traditional kind of place. We have long shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, filled with silk sarees and other fabrics in every color you can imagine. We don't use a lot of technology here. We prefer to show the cloth by hand, unfolding it so people can feel the weight and see the weave. The floor is tiled and we keep it swept clean, though dust from the street always finds its way in. We have a few old wooden benches where customers can sit and take their time. Choosing the right silk for a wedding or a festival shouldn't be rushed. My family has been doing this for a long time, and we know many of the people who walk through our door by their first names. We eat our lunch in a small room at the back that smells like spices and old paper. The lights are bright to show off the colors, but the rest of the shop is quite simple. We don't spend money on big advertisements. We just rely on the fact that people know where we are on Kamarajar Street and they know what we do.
