Foodworld Supermarket

You can find us at 27, 5th Cross Street in Rayala Nagar, which is in the Ramapuram area of Chennai. It’s a neighborhood supermarket, so we are basically right in the middle of where people live. The store isn't huge, but we try to keep the shelves stocked with everything from rice and dal to the soaps people use every day. It gets really hot in Chennai, so our fans are always running at full speed. In the mornings, we spend a lot of time unpacking crates of fresh vegetables and fruit that come in from the market. It’s a bit of a workout, honestly. The floor is made of old tiles that are easy to clean, which is good because people are coming in and out all day long. We know most of our customers by name, especially the ones who come in every evening for milk or bread. It’s a noisy place with the sound of the billing machine and people chatting. We don't have a big corporate management team or anything like that. It’s just a few of us making sure things are priced right and the shelves don't look too empty. Sometimes we run out of something popular and have to tell people to come back tomorrow. That's just how it goes. It’s a simple life, working in the shop and helping the neighbors get what they need for their kitchens.
