Saikia Stores

Saikia Stores is situated in the Railway Colony in Bamunimaidan, which is a part of Guwahati that feels like its own little world. It’s on Railway Colony Road, pincode 781021. I try my best to keep the shelves stocked with whatever the local families might need. It’s not a large operation, just me and occasionally one other person helping. People in the colony know me well. I’ve lived in Assam all my life, and this store is just my way of staying busy and earning a living. It’s a basic general store, so we have a bit of everything, but nothing too specialized. Sometimes it gets a bit messy with boxes of stock lying around, especially on delivery days. The traffic on the road can be a bit of a headache, but you get used to it. I open the shop quite early because some people like to get their things before they head off to work at the railway offices. It’s a lot of standing around, but I enjoy talking to the customers. We don't have a website or anything like that, just the shop front. If you walk down the road in Bamunimaidan, you’ll find us. It’s a humble place, and we don’t try to be anything else. Just Saikia Stores, serving the people nearby as best as we can. It’s been here for years and hopefully will be for many more. It is just a shop.
