Mallika Store

Mallika Store is located at Shop No 1 on Pandu Road in Guwahati. If you know where the fish market is, then you know where we are because we are right in front of it. Being across from the market means it’s always busy and there’s a lot of shouting and moving around from early in the morning. The smell of the market is something you just get used to after a few days. Our shop is where people come to get the rest of their groceries after they’ve bought their fish. We keep rice, oil, spices, and all the usual household items. The space is a bit small and the ceiling is quite low, which makes it feel cozy but also a bit cramped when it's raining outside and everyone crowds in to stay dry. We have a lot of different things shoved into the corners, from cleaning supplies to packets of biscuits. Most of our customers are from around Pandu, and they’ve been coming to us for years. We don’t have a computer or anything; we just write things down or remember the prices. The fan overhead wobbles a little bit, but it keeps the air moving. It’s a noisy, busy place to be, but we like the energy of the road. We just do our work, talk to the shoppers, and close up when the market starts to wind down for the day.
