Hillside Olives Llp is tucked away at the 13th Mile in Echhey Basti, which is part of Kalimpong. It’s a beautiful spot, but the work we do here is quite demanding. We aren't a large-scale operation with hundreds of workers. It’s just a small group of us trying to grow olives on these hills. It’s something a bit different for this area, and we’ve had to learn a lot along the way. The terrain in the Kalimpong-Darjeeling region isn't always easy to work with, especially when the monsoon hits and the roads get messy. We don't have a shiny office or a big team of sales people. Most of our time is spent outdoors, tending to the trees and making sure they’re doing okay in the mountain air. We started this because we wanted to try something new on our land. We aren't corporate types; we’re just locals who enjoy being out in the greenery. If you’re ever passing through Echhey Basti, you might see us around. We don't use any fancy language to describe what we do. It’s just about planting, growing, and seeing what the harvest brings each year. It takes a lot of patience, and some years are better than others. We’re just a small business trying to make a go of it in a place we love. We don't make big claims, we just put in the time and the effort every day.
