Siva Durga Bricks

We are located over at 369 in Turangi. It’s a quiet enough spot until we start the day’s work. Running Siva Durga Bricks is what we do from dawn until it gets dark. Most of the work is just handling clay and keeping the fires going. It’s not a clean job. You end up with mud on your boots every single day. We don’t really have a big office with air conditioning. We just stay out where the bricks are. People in Turangi know us well enough. They come by when they are building a house or just need a few bricks for a patch job. We try to keep things simple. We don't have a website or anything like that. If you need us, you just come to the yard. Sometimes the kiln doesn't behave, and we have to spend all day fixing it. That is just part of the life. We have a small crew and we all pitch in with the heavy lifting. The trucks come and go all day. It gets dusty, and the noise is constant, but it's what we know. We’ve been here for a good while now, and we don't plan on going anywhere else. It’s a steady kind of life, even if it is hard work. We just keep making the bricks and hope for good weather to dry them out properly. There is always a lot to do before the rainy season hits.
