We are located at Behubari T.E. in the Nazira area, right by the Dikhow river. This place is where Dikhow Tea comes from, and we call our specific line Tejasi Chai. Living and working on a tea estate means your whole life follows the rhythm of the plants. The air here is different than in the towns; it smells like wet earth and green leaves most of the time. Our office and packing area are part of the old estate buildings. They have high ceilings and thick walls that stay cool even when the Assam sun is beating down outside. We spend our days checking on the drying process and making sure the leaves are curled just right. It is a lot of manual labor and keeping an eye on the weather. If the rains are too heavy, it changes how we have to handle the harvest. We aren't a big corporate office with shiny floors. We have boots by the door and muddy tracks on the floor sometimes. The post office in Nazira is where we send out our mail and keep in touch with the world outside the garden. Most of our workers have been here for generations, so we are more like a big village than a company. We just try to make a decent tea that people will enjoy drinking in the morning. It’s a quiet life centered around the garden. We don't have much to complain about as long as the crop is good.
