Suraj Provision Store

Suraj Provision Store is my shop on Bhadwasiya Road, right along the Mandore Road area in Jodhpur. We are directly opposite the Sabji Mandi which means it’s incredibly busy here every single morning. While people are buying their fresh vegetables, they often cross the road to come to us for their spices, pulses, and cooking oil. The dust from the road and the market can be a bit much sometimes but you get used to it after a few years. It’s a dusty, loud, and very active part of Jodhpur. I start my day very early to catch the market crowd. The shop is filled with sacks of grain and various jars of sweets and snacks. It’s not organized like a modern mall, it’s just a traditional provision store. Sometimes I have to climb a ladder to get things from the top shelves which is getting harder as I get older. My son helps out when he can, especially on the busy weekends. We don’t have any big marketing plans or anything like that. We just focus on keeping the stock fresh and the prices fair for the people who live around here. Jodhpur is a hot place so we always have the fan running full speed. It’s a simple life selling the essentials to our neighbors and the farmers who come to the mandi. We’ve been here for years now.
