About Choudhary Stone Arts – Building & Construction Material in Jodhpur
Fidusagar is a busy little pocket over by Soorsagar. That’s where we do our work. It’s not like those big factories you see in the industrial zones. Here, it’s more about the smaller details. We do stone arts, which basically means we take pieces of sandstone and turn them into something else. It might be a carved pillar or a screen for a window. We have guys who have been using a hammer and chisel since they were teenagers. Their hands are rough, but they know exactly how hard to hit the stone. The yard is a mess of stone chips and dust. We don't bother cleaning it up too often because it just gets dirty again ten minutes later. We use a lot of the local red stone. It’s got a nice color to it once it’s finished. People find us by word of mouth mostly. Someone sees a piece we made for a neighbor and they come asking. We don't have a fancy sign or a front desk. You just walk in and find me or one of the carvers. We talk about what you need and we figure out a price. It’s a slow process. You can’t rush the carving or the stone will just break in the wrong place. We just keep working away at it, one piece at a time, until the job is done. It’s slow work and your back starts to ache after a few hours, but we don't know any other way to do it.
