Shree Krishan General Store

We are located right on Fort Road, not too far from the Mahadev Mandir. If you know the Jalori Gate area in Jodhpur, then you've probably walked past our door at some point. The Nav Chokiya Mohlla is a tight-knit place, and we know most of the faces that come in. Usually, the morning starts with the sounds of temple bells. I get the shop ready, making sure the floor is swept and the bags of rice are stacked neatly. It’s a small space, so we have to use every bit of the wall for shelving. People come in after their morning prayers to pick up matches or milk. It gets quite warm in the summer here, so the ceiling fan runs all day long without a break. I’ve been working here since I was a young man. My family has always lived in this part of Jodhpur. We don’t have any big signs or bright lights. Most people find us because they live right down the street. It’s a simple life, talking to customers about the weather or the price of groceries. Sometimes the kids from the neighborhood come in for a single piece of candy. I keep a stool behind the counter, but I rarely get a chance to sit down for long. The inventory changes depending on what people are asking for that week. It’s just Shree Krishan General Store, a quiet spot in a busy city.
