R. K. Stone

We are located on Kali Beri Road in the Soorsagar area, right across from Rathore Bhawan. R. K. Stone has been here for a while, and the place is filled with slabs and pieces of stone. It’s a very dusty job, as you can imagine. There is always the sound of stones being moved or cut somewhere nearby. Being opposite Rathore Bhawan makes it easy for people to give directions to our yard. The ground is covered in white dust and small rock chips. We spend our days outside or under a small tin shed that keeps the sun off us while we work. It’s physical work, and our hands are usually rough from handling the material. We don't have a fancy office; it’s mostly just a desk in the corner of the shed where we keep our books. The traffic on Kali Beri Road can be heavy with trucks carrying more stone or construction supplies. We usually start early before it gets too hot. By the afternoon, the sun is really strong on the rocks. We sit on plastic chairs during our breaks and drink cold water from a clay pot. It’s a basic life, just working with stone and seeing the same faces every day. People in Soorsagar know us by the sound of the yard. We just keep to ourselves and get the work done as best as we can. It’s heavy work, but it’s what we do.
