R. D. Marbles & Stones

We are set up at 67-68 Stone Park over at 9 Mile in Mandore. It’s a good spot because all the stone businesses are grouped together there. R. D. Marbles & Stones isn't a huge operation but we have enough space to keep a decent inventory. Most days involve moving slabs around with the crane so we can show customers what’s underneath. Marble is heavy and it takes a lot of care not to chip the edges when we shift things. We get all kinds of people coming by the shop looking for stuff for their kitchens or floors. Mandore has a lot of history with stone so we feel like we are part of that tradition in a small way. My brother and I usually handle the walk-ins while the workers stay in the back area. It’s noisy because of the saws but you get used to it after a while. We don’t spend money on big ads or fancy signs because word of mouth usually works for us around here. If someone needs a few pieces for a small job we help them out just like we would for a big contractor. It’s just about having the right stone at the right time. The 9 Mile area stays busy and we just keep our heads down and work. We have been here for a long time and we hope to stay for much longer.
