Prince Provision Store

Prince Provision Store is tucked away in Bjs Colony, not too far from the Rto Road in Jodhpur. The sun is usually very bright here, so we keep the blue awning pulled down to stay in the shade. Inside, it’s a bit cooler, though the shelves are packed tight with everything from spices to soap bars. We have a lot of different items squeezed into a small space, so you have to be careful not to knock anything over. Most of our customers are families who live nearby in 342006 and come in for their monthly rations. We spend time scooping sugar and flour into bags and weighing them out. Sometimes the dog from down the street sits near the door to get away from the heat. We don't have a computer system, so everything is written down in a big brown book. The phone rings quite a bit with people asking if we have specific things in stock. It can be a struggle to keep everything organized when a big shipment arrives and blocks the aisle. We usually finish the day feeling pretty tired from all the lifting and standing. There is a lot of dust from the road that settles on the jars, so we are always cleaning. It’s just a neighborhood store where people come to get their daily essentials and catch up on some local talk. We close up once it gets dark and the street settles down.
