New Chouhan Kirana & Provision Store

Out here on Jhawar Road in Jodhpur, things move at their own pace. New Chouhan Kirana & Provision Store is right near the Dali Bai Mandir, so we get a lot of people passing by on their way to the temple. It’s a dry area and the sun really beats down on the storefront during the afternoons. I spend a good chunk of my day checking the dates on the spice packets and making sure the oil cans are lined up straight. It’s a simple kirana shop. We have the usual stuff like pulses, sugar, and those cleaning supplies everyone needs. Sometimes I forget to write down what we are running low on, and then a neighbor comes in asking for something I just sold out of. It’s frustrating but they usually understand. My hands are usually a bit dusty from handling the grain bags. The floor needs sweeping three or four times a day because of the wind bringing in sand. People stop in to chat for a minute while they wait for me to weigh their sugar. It’s nothing special, just a place to get what you need for the kitchen without having to go all the way into the main city market. Jodhpur is changing but this corner near the mandir stays pretty much the same. I just keep the door open and wait for the next person to walk in.
