Jai Bhawani Kirana & Store

This place is located in the Madhudan Housing Board area in Basni. Jodhpur gets very hot in the summer months so we try to keep the shop as cool as possible for whoever comes in. We are right by Baba Ramdev Chowk so it is easy for people living in the MHB colony to find us when they need something quickly. The morning starts with unloading some of the crates of milk and setting out the bread. We have big jars of grains and pulses stacked up near the back. Sometimes the wind blows the sand in from the road and we have to sweep the entrance three or four times before noon. It is a quiet neighborhood mostly except for the noise from the chowk. People stop by on their way home to pick up a kilo of sugar or some tea leaves. We have been sitting here behind this counter for a long time watching the kids in the housing board grow up. There is always a lot of work to do with checking the stock and writing down what needs to be ordered for the next week. We don't have fancy lights or anything like that. It is just a normal kirana store with wooden shelves and a heavy metal shutter. The neighbors usually come in to talk for a bit while they wait for their groceries to be weighed and packed into bags.
