Gosai Fancy General Store

Running a shop in Bawri, out on the Anwana Road, is a bit different because we have a mix of everything. We call it a fancy store because we keep things like bangles, ribbons, and small gift items alongside the regular groceries. Jodhpur can get very hot and dusty, so we are always fighting to keep the displays clean. People come in from the nearby villages sometimes and they look for things they can't find in the smaller stalls. The shop is filled with a lot of color because of the plastic toys and hair accessories hanging from the ceiling. It’s a bit of a jumble, but we usually know exactly where everything is hidden. We have a small bench outside where older men sometimes sit and talk for a bit while they wait for the bus. The road is long and straight, and we see a lot of trucks passing through to other parts of Rajasthan. We keep cold drinks in a small fridge which is very popular when the temperature goes up. It’s not a large business, just a family-run place where we handle everything ourselves. We don't use a lot of technology, just a simple calculator and our memory. We’ve seen kids grow up and start coming in to buy things for their own homes now. It’s just a steady part of the day here on Anwana Road.
