Out here in Village Anganwa, specifically in the Bhakar Wala Bas area, things move a bit slower than in town. At Ramoji Furnitures, we are surrounded by open space and the sound of the wind. Our workshop is where we keep all the timber and the heavy saws we use to cut it. The smell of fresh wood is the first thing you notice when you walk in, and it stays on your clothes all day long. We spend our hours measuring planks and putting together frames for beds or tables. It’s a very physical job, and we are usually quite tired by the time the sun goes down. We don’t have a showroom with glass windows; our furniture is usually just sitting under the shade of the roof or out in the yard if we are working on it. People from around the village often stop by just to say hello or see what we are building today. The floor is covered in sawdust and wood shavings, and we only bother to sweep it at the very end of the week. We have some old tools that belonged to our fathers, and we still use them along with the newer ones we bought. It’s just honest work with our hands in a quiet place. We don't rush things, we just make sure the wood is cut right.
