Ajanta Emery Stone

Our place is at 17e/535 in the Chopasni Housing Board area. Emery stone is what we do. It’s not as pretty as marble, but it’s useful. People use it for grinding and other industrial stuff. The shop is small and we’ve been here for a long time. Neighbors know us. It’s a bit of a gritty job, literally, because of the material. We keep a regular schedule, opening up early before it gets too hot. It’s just us doing the work, making sure the orders are ready when someone comes to pick them up. We don't have a big corporate story to tell. We just provide emery stones to people who need them for their own businesses or workshops. It's a lot of repetitive work, checking the hardness and the shape of the stones, but it’s honest labor. We open the shutters early in the morning to catch the breeze before the sun gets too high over the housing board. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to us for years. We just treat people fairly and hope they come back next time. Sometimes the stone gets everywhere, in your hair and in your pockets, but you just brush it off and keep going.
