Dera Dundlod Kila

Dera Dundlod Kila is actually inside the Dundlod Fort itself. It’s an old place, so the walls are thick and the ceilings are high. Living and working in a fort means you get used to things being a certain way. The stairs are steep and the floors aren't always perfectly level, but that’s because it’s been standing for a very long time. We spend a lot of our day maintaining the property because an old fort requires a lot of looking after. We have horses nearby too, which is a big part of what happens here. You can often hear them in the mornings. The rooms we have for guests are scattered around the different parts of the fort. We don't have elevators or modern central heating, so we use blankets and thick walls to keep things comfortable. It feels very different from staying in a regular hotel in a city. There’s a lot of open space and old courtyards where you can just sit. We don't have a big staff with name tags; it’s mostly just the same few people you’ll see every day. We handle the cooking, the cleaning, and the maintenance ourselves. It’s a quiet life out here for the most part, away from the main highways. We just try to keep the history of the place alive without changing too much of how it feels to be inside these walls. It takes effort, but we stay busy.
