We’ve been here in Mandawa for a long time now. The building is old, a real castle, right in the village area of Jhunjhunu. It’s got these thick walls and big gates that have seen a lot of years go by. People come here to Rajasthan to see the old paintings on the walls around the town, and we’re just part of that landscape. It’s not like those shiny new hotels in the big cities. We have dust on the roads outside and sometimes the goats wander past the front. The staff here mostly grew up around these parts, so we know the alleys and the little shops pretty well. Living and working at Hotel Castle Mandawa Pvt.Ltd. means dealing with old pipes sometimes or fixing a door that sticks because of the heat. Rajasthan gets hot, really hot. We spend a lot of time making sure there's shade and that the courtyard stays somewhat cool. It’s a quiet life mostly, unless there’s a local festival happening nearby. Then the whole village gets noisy. We just keep the place running, sweeping the floors and making sure the rooms are ready for whoever shows up.
