Our place is tucked away at 1964 in the MIE area, specifically Part-B. If you walk down the lane, you’ll probably smell us before you see the sign. It’s that toasted sugar scent that gets into your clothes and stays there all day. We spend most of our hours around the ovens, watching the machines spin out the cones. It gets pretty warm in here, especially during the summer months when the ventilation isn't doing much. We aren't a big fancy operation with a glass lobby. It’s mostly just the production floor, stacks of boxes, and a small corner where we keep the records. The floor is concrete and we’ve got pallets piled up near the back door ready for the trucks. Sometimes the rhythm of the machinery is the only thing you hear for hours. We’ve had the same crew for a bit now, so everyone knows which machine is acting up just by the sound it makes. Getting the mix right is important but we don't make a big fuss about it. We just show up, start the heaters, and get to work. It’s a noisy, dusty kind of job, but there is something nice about seeing those stacks of crispy cones ready to go out. We've been in this part of the industrial estate for years and know most of the guys at the other units. We usually share a bit of news during the break by the water cooler.
