Sankar Travels

Sankar Travels is based at 5-160 in Jangam. Our day usually starts long before the sun comes up when the first drivers show up to collect their keys. The yard is often dusty, and you can smell the diesel and the soap we use to wash the vehicles down. We spend a lot of time on the phone, talking to people who are trying to get from one place to another or checking in with drivers who are out on the road. The office is just a small room with a desk that is covered in logbooks and loose slips of paper. There is an old calendar on the wall and a map of the local routes that we’ve used so many times the edges are curling up. Jangam is a place where people are always moving, so we don't get much downtime during the day. Sometimes a driver will come back and sit for a bit, complaining about the traffic or the heat, before heading out again to finish the shift. We keep a big water cooler in the corner because it gets very dry around here during the summer months. The chairs aren't the most comfortable, but they do the job for a quick sit-down between trips. It’s a very local operation where everyone knows each other’s names and we all help out. We don't have a big fancy lobby, just a place where you can book a trip. It is simple and a bit worn out, but it works.
