Mariah Cattle Rearing

Living and working at H. No-5-163 in Janagam means our days start way before the sun even thinks about coming up. Mariah Cattle Rearing isn’t some big corporate farm; it’s just the family and the animals in the yard. We spend a lot of time cleaning out the stalls and making sure the feed is ready. The cows can be stubborn, especially when it rains and the ground gets all muddy around the house. We have to carry the heavy buckets back and forth, and my back usually hurts by noon. Neighbors walk past and wave while we are out there working. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when the cattle get loud because they want their breakfast. We don’t use any big machines or anything like that, just our hands and a lot of patience. Sometimes a calf gets sick and we have to stay up late watching over it. The smell of hay and manure is just part of the air here. We sell what we have to the people around Janagam who know us. It’s hard work and there aren't many breaks, but we’ve been doing this at this address for a while now. The fences always need fixing because the wood rots or the cows lean on them too much. We just take it one day at a time and do what needs doing to keep the place running as it should.
