About Hadhiram Rice Cultivation – Food & Beverages in Janagam
This farm is at 93, Kadapagandi Tanda in the Jangam area. We’ve been growing rice here for as long as I can remember. It’s not a big operation, just a few of us working the soil. You spend your life watching the seasons change. When it’s time to sow the seeds, everyone is out in the field from dawn. The mud is thick and the work is hard on your legs. We don't have many helpers, so we just do it ourselves. Sometimes the pests get into the crop and we have to figure out how to stop them without spending too much money. Jangam can get very dry, so we worry about the water a lot. We share the water with the neighbors and sometimes there are arguments, but we usually work it out. The harvest is the most stressful time because we have to get everything in before the rain spoils it. We use an old thresher that makes a lot of noise. When we’re done, our clothes are soaked with sweat and we’re covered in husk dust. It’s a simple life. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just know where we are. We grow the rice, we bag it up, and that’s about it. It’s just what we know how to do and we’ve been doing it a long time. We don't think much about the future, just the next season and the next harvest after that.
