Our little shop is tucked away on Pipla Street, right near Jalani Jar. It’s an old part of the city where the lanes are narrow and the buildings are close together. You can usually smell the hing before you even see our door. It is a strong, distinct scent that we have grown to love over the years. We have been supplying this for a long time and our family has been in this trade for generations. It is not a large operation. We mostly sit on the floor or on low stools while we weigh out the spice and pack it into small containers. The light in the shop isn't great, but we know where everything is by touch. We get a lot of regular customers who have been buying from us since their parents were young. It’s more about the relationships we have built than anything else. We don't do much in the way of fancy packaging. We use plain jars and labels that we sometimes stick on crooked. It doesn't matter much to the people who know us. Pipla Street is always crowded with people and carts, so getting supplies in can be a bit of a headache. But this is where we belong. We keep things simple and honest, just like the product we sell.
