Dar General Store

You can find us in the old building at Kralpora, over in the Bagh Mehtab area of Srinagar. We are quite close to the water plant, which usually serves as a good landmark for people who aren't from this specific part of the neighborhood. Dar General Store is mostly a place where local residents stop by to get what they need for their houses. We carry everything from flour and rice to smaller things like matches, candles, and snacks. The building itself has some history to it and you can tell it has been around for many years. Inside, the wooden shelves are filled with jars and packets of all sorts of things. When the weather gets cold in Srinagar, the shop feels like a bit of a gathering point where people linger for a minute to talk before heading back out into the chill. We try to keep a good variety of items because it's a bit of a walk to the main markets from here. My family has been looking after this place for a while, and we have seen a lot of changes in Bagh Mehtab over the seasons. We don't have any big advertisements or anything like that. People just know we are here by the water plant and they come in when they need something. We spend our days restocking the shelves and helping neighbors find what they are looking for. It is quiet work but we like being part of the community here in Kralpora and seeing familiar faces every morning.
