Sharma Provision Store

If you walk down Canal Road and turn into Pritam Lane, you will find us right there. We’ve been running this provision store for a long time, and the neighborhood knows us pretty well. The store is packed from floor to ceiling with all the usual things—dals, rice, soaps, and those little packets of biscuits that kids always want. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once, but we make it work. The canal is just a stone's throw away, so it can get a bit damp when it rains, and we have to be careful about the stock. We don’t have fancy scanners or a computer system; we still write everything down in those big red registers. Every morning we sweep the front step and arrange the crates of milk and bread that get dropped off early. Sometimes the neighbors just stop by to talk about the weather or the traffic on Canal Road while they buy their groceries. It’s a loud place, especially when the scooters go zooming past the lane. We know most of our customers by name, and we know exactly what they usually need before they even ask. It’s just a small shop where we try to keep the shelves full and the scale balanced correctly for everyone who stops in.
