You can find Y. D. Aqua Food (P) Ltd. at 59 Udhay Nagar, just off Nakodar Road. It’s a busy area with a lot of trucks passing by all the time. The building is pretty plain, just a big functional space for processing. We deal with various types of aqua products. It’s cold inside because of the freezers, so we always wear sweaters even when it's hot outside. The floor is concrete and we have to wash it down constantly. It’s hard work and the hours are long. We don't spend a lot of time on fancy decorations. Most of the space is taken up by the processing lines and storage. I spend a lot of my time checking the temperatures and making sure the staff is following the routine. It’s a lot of responsibility because if the power goes out, we are in trouble. We have a backup generator that we have to kick-start sometimes. It’s noisy and smells like work. We get our supplies from all over and then we sort them out here. It’s a lot of lifting and moving crates around. My back usually aches by the end of the shift. We don't have a big reception area, just a small desk where we sign the delivery notes. It’s a basic operation but we've been doing it for years. We just focus on getting the food packed and sent out on time. It's not easy but it keeps us all going.
