Vikas Hospital

Out here in Apra, life moves a bit slower than in the big cities. Vikas Hospital is a local landmark for people in the Phillaur tehsil area of Jalandhar. We are tucked away in a spot that most people in the village know well. It’s a simple building, nothing too flashy, with white walls that we try to keep clean despite the dust from the nearby fields. Most of the folks who come in are farmers or families from the local area who have been coming here for a long time. I usually spend my mornings checking the supplies and making sure the water cooler is filled up for the patients. The building has a bit of a courtyard feel to it, and sometimes you can hear birds chirping outside the windows. We deal with all sorts of regular health stuff, from fevers to small injuries. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows everyone’s business, so we end up chatting quite a bit with the patients about their crops or their kids. We don't have a lot of fancy high-tech machines, but we have what’s needed for the basics. When the rains come, the road outside gets a bit muddy, but people still find their way to us. It’s just a quiet, steady rhythm of work that we do every day to help the community around us. It is a humble place, but it works for us.
