Ivm Shiksha

Over at number 45 in New Ujala Nagar, right by the big water tank in Basti Sekh, that’s where you’ll find Ivm Shiksha. Everyone in Jalandhar knows the water tank as a landmark, so it makes finding us a lot easier for new people. The area is quite residential, so it feels like a normal part of the neighborhood. The building we’re in is pretty basic. We have a couple of rooms where we’ve squeezed in as many desks as we could without it getting too uncomfortable. There’s a ceiling fan in every room that wobbles slightly when it’s on the high setting, but it keeps the air moving. We spend a lot of time here, often from the early morning until well after the sun goes down. There isn’t much in the way of decoration, just some boards for writing and a few cupboards for keeping files. Sometimes the neighbor's dog barks a lot, and you can hear the kids playing in the street, but that’s just how it is around here. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing team. It’s just us sitting with the students, going over their papers and trying to make sense of the syllabus. The floor is a bit uneven in the hallway, so you have to watch your step when you walk in. It’s a very local, down-to-earth kind of place where things are kept simple and functional for everyone who comes through the door looking for a quiet spot.
