We are based out of Sahar Sahi in Padmapur, which is right in the heart of the Jajpur Road area. It’s a bit of a dusty place because of all the industrial activity nearby, but that’s just how it is when you’re in the steel business. Our office is actually at P.K. Mohanty’s place, so it feels more like a house than a corporate building. It’s a lot quieter here than being right on the main highway, though you can still hear the distant rumble of the machinery if the wind is blowing the right way. Most of us who work here have been in the area our whole lives. We handle a lot of the local coordination and paperwork that comes with running a big operation like Visa Steel. It’s not a glamorous job, mostly just checking lists and making sure the supplies are coming in on time. We take our lunch breaks together and talk about the local cricket matches or what’s happening in the market. The building is simple, nothing to brag about, but it’s sturdy and keeps the sun off our heads. In the evenings, things slow down a bit, and we wrap up whatever is left on the desks. It’s a steady kind of life, and we like the people we work with. Being in a residential spot makes the workday feel a little less stressful than being stuck in a giant factory all day.
