L&T Construction

Right now, we are stationed at the Tata Steel site for the Kalinga Nagar Project. Working for L&T Construction means we go where the big jobs are, and this one is about as big as it gets. It’s a massive area and there is always something happening. The site is full of dust, heavy cranes, and thousands of workers. We spend our days out in the heat, wearing our safety gear and making sure the construction plans are being followed correctly. It’s not a desk job at all. We live in temporary housing near the project site, so we are pretty much thinking about construction twenty-four hours a day. The noise of the machinery is something you never really get away from. We eat our meals together in the mess hall and talk about the day's progress. It’s hard on the body and we are usually exhausted by the end of the shift. We don't have time for corporate polish or fancy words here. We are just focused on pouring concrete, fitting steel, and building the structures we were hired to build. It’s a tough environment but there’s a real sense of accomplishment when you see a massive structure start to take shape out of nothing. We are just a bunch of engineers and laborers working together to get a massive project finished on time in a very dusty part of the country. It is hard work but it is honest.
