Sneha Hair Dresser is right here on New Road in Phalodi. I open the shop early in the morning when the air is still a bit cool before the Jodhpur heat starts kicking in. It’s not a big place, just a couple of chairs and big mirrors that I wipe down first thing every day. Most people from around Phalodi know where we are. Usually, it's just the local guys coming in for a quick hair cut or a shave before they head to work. I keep the scissors sharp and the combs clean in a little drawer. Sometimes the shop gets a bit dusty because of the road outside, so I’m always sweeping the floor to keep it tidy. There is a small radio that plays old songs, mostly just to have some background noise while I work. People sit on the wooden bench if there’s a wait. We talk about the weather or what’s happening in the local market. It’s just a normal routine here. I don't use any fancy machines or anything, just the usual tools that work fine for everyone. The water spray bottle is always full and ready. By evening, it gets a bit busier when the younger boys come by after school or their college classes. They usually want something specific they saw on their phones, and I try my best to do what they ask. Then I lock up when the street lights come on and head home. That is basically how every day goes for us.
