Our yard is located at Plot No. A-128 on Road No. 9d in the V. K. I. Area. If you know this part of town, you know it’s all about manufacturing and heavy industry. Union Prestress is right in the thick of it. We work with concrete and steel, so it’s a very physical environment. There’s usually the sound of mixers or heavy machinery in the background while we’re trying to get things organized. The ground is mostly dirt and gravel, and it gets pretty muddy when it rains, which makes moving the heavy stuff even harder. We spend our days checking the tension on wires and making sure the molds are set up right. It’s repetitive work but it has to be done carefully. The office on the plot is just a small building where we keep the site plans and the time sheets for the crew. We don’t have any fancy decorations, just a few calendars on the wall and a water cooler. Most of our staff have been here for a long time, so we’ve got a good rhythm going. We just show up, do the work, and try to get the loads out on schedule. It’s a lot of heavy lifting and long hours under the sun, but that’s the nature of the business here in V. K. I. We’re just a local company doing our part.
