Ujhala Foundation

Ujhala Foundation is based out of Kotra, specifically at the Kotra Adivasi Sansthan on Swarupganj Road. It’s in the Udaipur district, but it’s quite a way out from the main city. This area is very different from the tourist spots people usually think of. We share the space here, and it’s always a bit noisy with people coming in from the nearby villages. We don't have a fancy air-conditioned office. We just have fans and open windows that let in the mountain air and sometimes a bit of dust. Most of our work involves being out on the road or talking to people in the local community. We don't use a lot of technical jargon or corporate talk. We just speak the local language and try to be helpful. The road to Swarupganj can be a bit rough in the monsoon, so we have to plan our trips carefully. We keep our records in simple ledgers and on one old computer that sometimes takes forever to start up. It’s a very basic way of working, but it’s what works for us here in Kotra. We don’t have a big team of experts. We are just people who live here and want to see things get a little better for our neighbors. If you come by, we’ll probably offer you a glass of water and a plastic chair to sit on. It’s just how we do things. We don't have a lot of rules.
