If you head over to Bankat Nagar and look for the big mobile tower, you’ll find Subash Handicrafts right near it on Plot No- 626. This is where we spend the bulk of our time. It’s a workshop style setup, so it isn’t the quietest place in the world. There’s usually the sound of tools and people working on different pieces. We do a lot of traditional handicraft work here in Tonk Fatak. It’s a bit of a dusty environment sometimes, especially when we are finishing up a big order. My family has been around this area for quite some time, and we just kept the business going right here. We don’t have a massive showroom or anything like that. It’s mostly just the space where the items get made and packed up. Some days the heat in the afternoon makes it tough to work, but we start early to beat it. The neighbors know us well, and sometimes people just drop in to see what we are currently making. We use basic materials and try to get the details right on every single item. It’s steady work, though it fluctuates depending on the season. Sometimes we have a lot of items stacked up waiting to go out, and other times we are just starting on a fresh batch of designs. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out.
