Shri Ram Granite

Out here on New Sanganer Road, things never really stay quiet for long. Shri Ram Granite is right in the middle of it all, opposite Swarn Path, where the trucks are constantly passing by and throwing up dust. We spend most of our time out in the open, looking over the slabs and moving things around with the crane when someone needs a specific piece. The sun hits the stone pretty hard in the afternoon, so we mostly stay under the small tin roof when we aren't helping a customer. It is a dusty job, and our clothes always have that white powder on them from the cutting and moving. We don't have a big office or anything, just a small cabin with a couple of plastic chairs and a water cooler that barely keeps up with the heat. People come by from the newer houses being built in Mansarovar, looking for something that fits their budget. We don’t do much talking except to explain what we have in the yard at the moment. It’s heavy work, and by the end of the day, everyone is pretty tired. The traffic on the road starts to thin out late in the evening, and that is usually when we start thinking about closing up the gate. It is a basic way to earn a living, just selling stone to people who need it for their floors or kitchens. We get by just fine without any fancy slogans.
