Shri Bhagwati Granite & Marble

We set up Shri Bhagwati Granite & Marble out on Kalwar Road. It’s a good spot because there is plenty of room for the heavy stones we deal with. Granite is heavy and hard to move, so we have to be careful every time we shift a piece. The yard is mostly open to the sky. When it rains, everything gets muddy, but the stone looks nice when it’s wet. I spend a lot of time talking to builders and people who are fixing up their houses. Most of them come from the nearby neighborhoods that are growing fast. Kalwar Road used to be a lot quieter, but now there are shops and houses everywhere you look. We don't have a big sign or anything, just the piles of stone that people see from the road. I usually have a couple of workers helping me with the loading. We use an old crane that squeaks a bit, but it gets the job done. Sometimes people come in and they aren't sure what they want, so we just walk around the stacks until something catches their eye. It’s not like a showroom you’d see in the city center. It’s just a yard with stone and some basic tools. We keep the ledger in a small wooden desk in the corner. It’s a simple setup for a simple business. I’ve been here for many years and I know most of the other stone sellers nearby. We just keep things moving.
