Shree Shyam Marble

You can find Shree Shyam Marble on Agra Road, right by the Prem Nagar Pulia. We are directly opposite Modern Town, which makes it pretty easy for people to spot us when they are driving by. It’s a large open area where we keep all the slabs of marble. It gets quite messy because of the stone dust and the water we use for cutting, so I usually wear my old boots every day. There is no point in trying to stay clean in this line of work. We’ve got blocks piled up everywhere. Some days are very slow, and we just sit on the plastic chairs under the shade of the small office roof. Other days, we have three or four trucks waiting to be loaded, and then everyone is running around. The Agra Road is always busy, so the sound of horns is something we hear from morning to night. I’ve been handling the marble business for a long time. It’s heavy work, and your back definitely feels it after a few years. My son helps out with the accounts now because I never was very good with the computer stuff. We just try to get the pieces cut to the right size and hope the delivery truck doesn't get stuck in traffic. It’s a straightforward way to make a living. Most of our customers are just local people building their own houses. We treat everyone the same and just do our work.
