Being out here in the Riico Industrial Area at Ajoliya Ka Khera is a bit of a trek, but it’s where the work is. We are over at E-1/119, pretty close to the Sgra Mata Mandir. You can usually hear the sounds of the machines from the other sheds around us. We handle a lot of marble. It’s what we do every day. The yard is big and full of stone that’s come from the quarries nearby. Rajasthan is hot, and working out here in the sun isn't for everyone. My boots are always grey from the slurry. We’ve been operating this way for a long time. It’s a family-run kind of thing, really. We don’t have a lot of time for talk, just moving the blocks and getting them cut into slabs. Sometimes a piece breaks and you just have to deal with it. That’s the nature of working with stone. You can't control everything. People drive out here from Chittorgarh and further just to pick through the stacks. We show them what we’ve got and help them load it up. It’s a straightforward business. No big promises, just stone. If you find the temple, you’re basically there. We’re usually around even on the dusty days. It’s just a long day of work, but someone has to do it. We don't mind the noise much anymore. We just keep the saws running and the trucks moving as best as we can.
