Prateek Stone

We are based at 9/10 Sharma Colony, in the Extension 22 area of Godam in Jaipur. It’s a bit of a quiet spot compared to the main roads, which we actually prefer. We have been working with stone here for a long time, and the yard is usually stacked high with different slabs. Most of what we do involves the local stones that Jaipur is famous for. It’s a dusty, gritty environment, and we’re usually dressed for work rather than for showing off. Our office is just a small corner where we keep our receipts and take phone calls from builders. There isn't anything polished or corporate about how we run things. We just get the blocks in, cut them to the sizes people need, and send them back out. The summer months are tough because of the heat, but we just start earlier in the morning to beat the worst of it. We have a small crew that has been with us for years, and they know the stone as well as I do. We don't spend money on big ads. We just hope that if we do a decent job, people will come back next time they need stone. It’s a simple way of doing business that has served us well for a long time. Working with stone is all we’ve ever done, and we plan to keep doing it as long as we can. It’s our life.
